Homeowners Guide to Organic Landscape Care
with Bradley H. Roeller
Sunday, March 5, 10 a.m.
It is possible to practice organic landscape care. Brad Roeller, manager of the Display Gardens at Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, NY, will help you understand what it takes. This talk will provide tips for both amateur and professional gardeners on how to successfully manage their flower garden and landscape by utilizing environmentally sound products and practices. Having the best landscape in the neighborhood and keeping it looking that way without pesticides, inorganic fertilizers, and endless watering is possible if one is willing to question conventional wisdom and practices. For over two decades, gardeners at the Institute of Ecosystem Studies have evaluated thousands of woody and herbaceous landscape plants while developing a system of plant care and landscape management that does not rely on chemical fertilizers or pesticides, or frequent irrigation. Topics covered include: why site analysis and plant selection is so important; how to put and integrated pest management program to work for you; what are biostimulants and why are they better than fertilizers; why Kentucky bluegrass is out and corn glutin is in; seasonal gardening practices for the prudent gardener; sources and resources for organic gardeners.
